India-Australia Trade Deal Moves Forward: 11th CECA Round Wraps

India and Australia have made fresh progress in their ongoing negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA). The 11th round of talks took place in New Delhi from 18-23 August 2025.

The talks covered a wide range of areas including goods, services, digital trade, rules of origin, as well as environmental, labour, and gender issues. Legal and institutional frameworks for the agreement were also discussed.

An interim pact between the two nations has been in place since December 2022, but the goal now is to expand it into a full-fledged CECA. Officials reported greater understanding and convergence on several pending matters, and both sides agreed to continue discussions virtually to keep up momentum.

The push for an early conclusion of CECA highlights the growing importance of India-Australia trade ties, with opportunities for deeper cooperation in digital commerce, services, and sustainable development.
